Worthy Endeavors

Yes, new year’s resolutions are totally stupid. Everyone knows that. So, we’ve made a list of not resolutions but worthy endeavors to attempt this year that will make your life infinitely richer. Ready? Here we go.

Two sherry cocktails with lemon twists

Learn to drink vermouth like a pro.
As is apparent from all the vermouth articles on our website, you can see that we are a fan. Especially in Italy and Spain where civilized people live, vermouth is enjoyed on it’s own, over ice and with a twist. It’s delicious and it’s low in alcohol so ditch the hard seltzer and show some class.

Explore some gins.
Gin is an exciting category as so many people are experimenting with new recipes and unusual profiles. There are gins deliberately made with less juniper, gins made in stills seasoned from other spirits, gins that change color, and fine gastronomic gins made specifically to go with food. Plus, there are endless gin cocktail recipes so get busy.
Products to try: BCN, Ginraw, Sunday Gin, Gunpowder, Fred Jerbis

Drink more tequila.
There is no better spirit than a carefully made tequila or mezcal and we have lots of them on our shelves. In addition to the many cocktails made with tequila, you can put tequila in coffee, mix it into hot  cocoa, or make tequila ice cubes that will then melt poetically in a glass of pomegranate juice.
Products to try: Fortaleza, Arette, El Tesoro, Antidoto, Vago, La Luna

Two tequila cocktails garnished with flowers and limes

Use better mixers.
Stop buying bargain mixers and put some decent ingredients in your cocktails.
Products to try: Mr. Black, Cool Swan, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curaçao Triple Sec, Domaine Jahiot Crémes

Discover Greek Wines.
Greek wines are intimidating because the grapes are unfamiliar and hard to pronounce, but dip your tow in the Aegean Sea just once and you will be hooked. While Greece is mostly famous for its white wines, there are plenty of amazing reds to go around. We are currently obsess with anything Agiorytiko.
Products to try: Tetramythos Peloponnese Mavro Kalavrytino Natur, Monemvasia Laconia Dry White, Paterianakis Moschato Spinas, Koukos Elektra Orange Wine, Troupis Nemea

Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo, Nebbiolo.
Few wines make me happier than Nebbiolo. It’s loaded with personality, made in a bunch of styles, incredibly food friendly, and can be had for a song or leave you dead broke. We recommend splurging on a Barbaresco.
Products to try: Francesca Castaldi Bigin,  Guidobono, Musica del Marqués, Le Piane ‘Mimmo’, GD Vajra ‘Bricco delle Viole’ Barolo, Ceretto Barbaresco, Arpepe Valtellina

Drink sherry.
I know how annoying I am wit this, but be brave. Buy a half bottle of Manzanilla, chill it down, put out a plate of Manchego with some crackers and some membrillo (quince paste) and learn to appreciate something uniquely different.
Products to try: El Maestro Sierra Fino,  La Cigarerra Manzanilla, Equipo Navazos La Bota Manzanilla, Valdespino Contrabandista Amontillado, Bodegas Grant La Garrocha Oloroso
